Writer’s Resources: List of fantasy publishers (short fiction)

If you’d like more writing tips you can get my eBook, This Craft We Call Writing: Volume One, for free by completing the form below. Inside you’ll find over 150 pages covering everything from dialogue, characterisation, prose and plotting, to world-building, writing fight scenes and viewpoint.

It’s a stormy Monday, but I have something to banish the clouds. I’m delighted to announce the creation of my Writer’s Resources page. Here I’ll be adding any bits of info to help you on your quest, and I could think of no better way to kick things off than with a table of fantasy publishers (short fiction).

I’ve had little joy with submissions of late, but as we all do, I picked myself up and went on the hunt for more publishers. This time round I decided to make a note of all that I found and codify it into a table to share with you folks.

Click here to access the table. If you’d like an excel version, just drop me an email.

In other news, this Wednesday (25th) I’m set to do the r/fantasy Writer of the Day over at Reddit. I’ll post again to let you know when it goes live. You’ll find out a bit more about my writing and myself.

  1. That’s a pretty good list. There were a few I wasn’t even tracking, so thanks for sharing! I’m pretty sure more of those in your list are pro-rated than noted, such as PodCastle, Strange Horizons, Lightspeed, or Uncanny. The cutoff for pro is 6c/word and SFWA seems pretty good about adding publishers that pay that consistently. I could be wrong on those three specifically though.

    1. That’s a useful bit of info to know! Being from the UK I’m not too savvy with the SFWA rules. Ralan.com is where I got the statuses for these publishers from and seems to be a pretty reliable resource, but they may be wrong! Do you know of any others to add to the list?

      1. I think Ralan is a bit out of date, if I can remember the last time I looked. I have a bunch of publishers saved in my browser favorites, but probably too many to mention. I think you have most of the popular ones listed.
