Pariah’s Lament

“It’s often those that everybody forgets about that possess the power to change the world in the most significant of ways.”

In Summer 2020, my debut fantasy novel, Pariah’s Lament, will be published by Fiction Vortex

Pariah’s Lament forms part of the ‘Of Metal and Magic’ Storyverse, a shared universe in which myself and a handful of other writers populate the world of Soria with fantastical tales. It’s an exciting concept delivered in an intriguing new serial format championed by Fiction Vortex. Click here to read more about the Storyverse.

I’ll post regular updates on my progress and, if I’m allowed, will share some teasers.

When an attempt is made on the life of Ashara, Keeper of Yurr, his young advisor Edvar must uncover and stop those behind it. With enemies in the capital city and the belligerent Tesh, Keeper of neighboring kingdom Karrabar, stirring trouble in the Borderlands, can Edvar hold together Ashara’s brittle reign?

The troubles ripple throughout Yurr, affecting an ancient race of people known as the Amast, who in their time of utmost need, turn to pariah Isy for salvation. Rejected by society, kith and kin, can Isy guide the Amast to safety during the greatest turmoil Yurr has known since the War of the Damned?

Fans of Joe Abercrombie and George R.R. Martin will love the gritty realism of Pariah’s Lament, yet at times it possesses a light-hearted and humorous touch akin to the works of James Barclay and Nicholas Eames. And for those who adore the coming of age heroes of Brandon Sanderson and Patrick Rothfuss, you’ll find two protagonists that will whisk you away on an epic journey of discovery, intrigue and friendship.

Reviews of Pariah’s Lament

“… an enthralling account of a boy trying to emerge from his father’s shadow as his own man, and a girl who finds her home with a family who have no home of their own. Billing shrewdly delves into the very relatable, human need to actualize and belong.” Mark Brooks

“Billing has a knack for writing descriptions that can make readers feel like they’re walking in the character’s shoes.” Anna Civolani, Editor
